Flower Shows You Shouldn’t Miss In Santa Clara County, CA

Looking for new flower varieties to take care of? Well, take advantage of the flower shows and garden expos held in and around Santa Clara and get yourself acquainted on various California flower species. Hundreds of show-quality flowers will be on display and you get to ask for gardening and flower growing tips from the experts. Here’s a short list of the flower-related events held in and around Santa Clara County.

Last February 12-14, 2016, the Santa Clara Valley Orchid Society which was established in 1951 held their 65th Annual Orchid Show and Sale at Westgate Mall.

The 75th Annual Camellia Show was held at Santa Clara Community Recreation Center last February 20 and 21, 2016. More than 900 individual camellias were showcased ranging from lovely miniature-sized camellias to giant ones about the size of a dinner plate. During this event, novice growers can find plenty of information about growing camellias from educational lectures and from expert growers who joined the show. The event also presents the opportunity to meet the Santa Clara Camellia Society’s members and discover how to be part of the group.  This event is held during the month of February every year so be on the lookout for next year’s schedule.

If you love iris flowers, there’s the Clara B. Rees Iris Society in Los Gastos in Santa Clara County. They hold their Iris Spring Show during the month of April, the peak month of the iris blooming season. Their 2016 Iris Spring Show was held last April 9 – 10 at Westgate Mall in Saratoga Avenue, San Jose.

Coming up is the California Native Plant Society 42nd Wildflower Show. The Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the California Native Plant Society and The West Valley College Biology

Department sponsors the 42nd Wildflower Show at West Valley College on April 23, 2016. This is a family-friendly wildflower show with exhibit on hundreds of wildflowers and native plants plus free classes on wildflower photography, wildflower identification and native plants gardening, and more.  Free admission and parking

On April 24, 2016 is the Annual Spring Rose Show sponsored by Santa Clara County Rose Society. The event is to be held at Almaden Community Center. Hundreds of gorgeous roses will be on display. Admission is free so mark your calendar and get to see your old favorites plus some new rose varieties.

Fancy ikebana arrangements? The famous Ikebana Flower Show sponsored by Wafu School of Ikebana held its 45th Ikebana Flower Show last October 2015. This is an event held semi-annually and the 46th Ikebana Flower Show’s tentative schedule is set on April 2017 at Quinlan Community Center in Cupertino. The city of Cupertino is just 8 kilometres from Santa Clara.
If you’re willing to drive to the southernmost portion of Silicon Valley still at Santa Clara County, you can attend Morgan Hill’s Flower Lovers Club Annual Flower Show this April 23 and 24, 2016. The event will be held at Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center at Monterey Road, from 11Am to 4PM.

Should you wish to take your flower show and garden expo attendance to the next level, there are several other flower festivals and shows in other parts of California. There’s the Julian Women’s Club Wildflower Show, the Highland Springs Lavender Festival in Cherry Valley, the Plumeria Festival in San Diego and the Capitola Begonia Festival. During the month of September, there is the Easco Festival of Roses, the Orchid Festival in Landers and the Annual Southern California Garden Show in Costa Mesa.  Of course, not to be missed is the big San Francisco Flower & Garden Show.
